Braces Q & A

How do braces work?

Most people are born with teeth that are at least partially out of alignment or crowded. Some people may need more in-depth treatment such as tooth extraction surgery, while many more will need some form of braces to move their teeth into a more aligned and beautiful position. Braces are a common and effective method for achieving straight and aligned teeth.

Braces consist of metal brackets that are rooted to your teeth and connected to each other with a metal wire. Rubber bands are then placed over the brackets and serve to move the teeth toward the desired position over time. Dr. Tingilian and Dr. Shanakian both have extensive experience with braces, helping countless patients of all ages achieve a bright and beautiful smile.

How long do I wear braces?

The amount of time it takes to achieve the desired results varies from person to person depending on several factors, including:

  • The amount of room available
  • How far the teeth need to be moved
  • The health of the teeth and gums
  • How diligent the patient is at following instructions
  • The health of the jawbone.

However, most patients will wear their braces for 1-3 years. Following treatment, you’re advised to wear a retainer at all times for roughly six months after the braces have come off, and then every night thereafter to ensure that the teeth don’t move out of alignment.

The team at Comfort Care Dental works with both children (13 and older) and adult patients, helping you achieve your dream smile no matter your age. Speak with them today about your situation, and start your journey to a beautiful smile.

What can I expect with braces?

Most people tolerate braces quite well. Initially, you may notice some soreness as the rubber bands pull your teeth toward the desired location. During treatment, you need to have regular appointments with the team at Comfort Care Dental to have the braces adjusted properly. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have throughout the process.
